Enhancements in MAGic 11.0.603 (February 2008)
The following is a list of items addressed between the final MAGic 11.0 public beta release and the final MAGic 11.0.603 posting.
MAGic
- An issue involving video corruption when running JAWS and MAGic together has been resolved. This corruption, also known as mouse painting, would cause pixels to disappear when passing the mouse over the title bar, toolbars, and menus of dialog boxes. Often it would take up to 45 seconds or a minute for this problem to resolve itself.
- Now, when running JAWS and MAGic together, the keystroke MAGic Key+SHIFT+DELETE toggles MAGic screen magnification and does not lose speech.
- When connected to a client computer using Remote Desktop, MAGic now correctly performs a Say All from the caret position instead of the mouse pointer position. This issue sometimes occurred in applications such as Word and Notepad.
- Focus Enhancement tracking works correctly when navigating through menu lists with an item highlighted.
- Focus Enhancement tracking now always draws focus onto the first item of multi-page dialog boxes. In earlier releases, the MAGic focus was not always consistent when moving between dialog boxes.
- When using keyboard navigation, MAGic now correctly tracks menus on the MAGic user interface and the MAGic Contest menu (MAGic Key+RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON). Previously, menu tracking was failing in Windows Vista when User Account Control was enabled.
- After pressing CTRL to stop speech during a Say All, the caret now stops at the last word spoken. If you resume the Say All, MAGic starts reading from the caret position where the last word was spoken.
- If you are running JAWS and MAGic together, and you decide to install a MAGic upgrade, magnification now works after you reboot your computer.
Citrix Program Neighborhood
- MAGic now supports Citrix Program Neighborhood® 10.
Microsoft Excel
- The Blank Cell Announcement option in Excel now functions correctly. When this option is off, MAGic only announces the cell coordinates of a blank cell. When this option is on, MAGic announces blank and the cell coordinates. To open the Blank Cell Announcement option and choose a setting, press MAGic Key+O while in an Excel document. Next, press B to navigate to the Blank Cell Announcement option, and then press SPACEBAR to toggle through the settings. Press ENTER to save the change.
- The Merged Cells Detection option now functions correctly in an Excel file. Previously, if you navigated into merged cells, and this option was off, MAGic would still announce that you were in merged cells. To open the Merged Cells Detection option and choose a setting, press MAGic Key+O while in Excel. Next, press M to navigate to the option, and then press SPACEBAR to toggle through the settings. Press ENTER to save the change.
Microsoft Internet Explorer
- Previously, MAGic would stop speaking if you pressed ALT+TAB to move away from an HTML document, while the Virtual Cursor was in an edit field, and then pressed ALT+TAB to return to the HTML page. This problem no longer occurs.
- When MAGic speech is disabled, the keystrokes to show headings and lists (MAGic Key+F6 and MAGic Key+F7) in an HTML document function correctly.
- MAGic now functions correctly if you use the mouse to highlight and then copy items that appear on an HTML page.
- The default setting for the Select and Copy option is now Full Content Using On-screen Highlight. To open the Select and Copy option and choose a setting, press MAGic Key+O while in Internet Explorer. Next, press S to navigate to the Select and Copy option, and then press SPACEBAR to toggle through the settings. Press ENTER to save the change.
Microsoft Office
- Caret and mouse cursor tracking in Office 2007 applications now works correctly with italic text.
- The Adjust MAGic Options dialog box (MAGic Key+O) now opens in Word, Excel, and Outlook when MAGic is configured for Latin American Spanish or Castilian Spanish with Bilingual Interface enabled.
- If you have created a signature line in Word or Outlook that exceeds two lines, MAGic now correctly reads all lines of the signature as you navigate through it using the UP and DOWN ARROW keys.
- When using the Say All command (INSERT+DOWN ARROW) to read a Word 2007 document or an Outlook 2007 e-mail message, the MAGic highlight box correctly tracks along as MAGic reads the text.
- MAGic now correctly tracks menu items that appear when the Office button is selected.
- When running JAWS and MAGic together with Office applications, the Adjust JAWS Options dialog box (INSERT+V) is used instead of the Adjust MAGic Options dialog box (MAGic Key+O).
- If ClearType font smoothing is enabled on your computer, and you then start MAGic, MAGic will disable ClearType and then enable it again when you close MAGic. Previously, MAGic would not restart ClearType. This issue has been resolved.
- The Cursor Enhancement function now works correctly in Office 2007 applications.
Microsoft Outlook/Outlook Express/Windows Mail
- Navigating up or down in an e-mail message no longer occasionally causes a screen shift to the left when reading a line of text that exceeds the magnified area.
- When turned on, the option to automatically read Outlook 2007 e-mail messages now works correctly. To open the Messages Automatically Read option and choose a setting, press MAGic Key+O while in Outlook 2007. Next, press M to navigate to the option, and then press SPACEBAR to toggle through the settings. Press ENTER to save the change.
- After changing the voice profile from English to another language, the Outlook Options tree view (MAGic Key+O) is now populated with the correct options in that language.
- Editing and navigation keystrokes in Outlook Express work correctly if you begin composing an e-mail message, move to another application, and then return to the message in Outlook Express.
- When navigating through the Window Mail user interface, MAGic now correctly announces Windows Mail instead of Outlook Express.
- If Outlook is running prior to starting MAGic, there is no longer a lengthy delay before MAGic starts.
- When replying to or composing an e-mail message in Outlook 2007, MAGic can now correctly track text that appears italic.
- Pressing SHIFT+TAB once while in the message body of a new mail message window moves focus back to the Subject edit field.
- MAGic no longer double-speaks if you press SHIFT+TAB to move from the message box back to the Subject edit field in Outlook 2007.
- Navigating up or down in an e-mail message no longer causes screen jitter when running JAWS and MAGic together. Previously, the screen jitter typically occurred when a line of text wrapped to a second line. If you navigated to the line of text that exceeded the magnified area, the text would shift one to three characters to the right and then back to the original position. This no longer happens.
Microsoft Word
- If a Word document contains consecutive comments and tracked changes, MAGic now detects all comments and changes and correctly reads each item.
- In Word 2003, when you press ENTER in a document, you no longer receive an unknown function call.
- When running JAWS and MAGic together, pressing INSERT+V while in Word now opens the Adjust JAWS Options dialog box instead of the Adjust MAGic Options dialog box.
- The selected setting for the Defined Document Column and Row Table Titles Override option is now retained by MAGic. To open this option and choose a setting, press MAGic Key+O while in Word. Next, press D to navigate to the option, and the press SPACEBAR to toggle through the settings. Press ENTER to save the change.
- As you navigate through Word tables using TAB or SHIFT+TAB, MAGic only announces the table type once when you enter a table. Previously, the table type would be announced every time you move from one cell to another.
- In Word 2003, an unknown function call no longer appears as you navigate the Font command's Font combo box.
- When running JAWS and MAGic together, the setting for the Floating Toolbars Dock option operates correctly. To open this option and choose a setting, press INSERT+V while in Word. Next press F to navigate to the option, and press SPACEBAR to toggle through the settings. Press ENTER to save the change.
- If you stop a Say All while in Word, and then move the caret by pressing the UP or DOWN ARROWS, MAGic now properly tracks the caret.
- MAGic now reads all items that appear in the Word 2007 Spelling dialog box.
Windows Explorer
- MAGic, when configured for Spanish, now correctly tracks by file name when Windows Explorer is set for Details view.
- When using the mouse wheel to scroll through Windows Explorer, tracking no longer jumps to the upper left corner of the dialog box.
Windows Vista
- You can now use the Mouse Enhancements' size attribute to change the mouse size from Standard to Large while running Windows Vista. In previous MAGic releases, the Windows Aero interface in Windows Vista prevented mouse size changes.
- You can now update your graphics card's video driver while MAGic is running on a Windows Vista computer. Previously, MAGic would close when attempting to upgrade the driver.
- When running MAGic on a Windows Vista computer, MAGic now magnifies every time it is started. Previously, on a few computers, the first time you ran MAGic, magnification worked, but subsequent MAGic sessions would not magnify.
- When running MAGic on a computer that has been upgraded from Windows XP to Windows Vista, magnification now works when the graphics card uses older non-WDDM (Windows Vista Display Driver Model) drivers.
- MAGic supports a video color setting of 32-bit color or higher in Windows Vista. If you try to use 16-bit color mode, MAGic now shows a dialog stating that this display setting is not supported.
Windows XP
- After installing MAGic 11.0 on a Windows XP computer, if you open the Display Properties dialog box and select the Settings tab, you no longer receive an Invalid Display Settings error message.
